Lyrics for Life Concert Reinforces Awareness for Diabetes in the UAE
International Dance Group from South Africa perform at Concert
Landmark Group, one of the largest retail conglomerates in the Middle East, organized an exclusive concert aimed at reinforcing awareness and education for diabetes in the UAE. The event tagged 'Lahan Al Hayat' (Lyrics for Life), is part of Landmark Group's continued effort to spread awareness of diabetes through it's 'Beat Diabetes' campaign.
'Beat Diabetes' campaign was launched as a CSR initiative in November 2009. Over 4000 people from all over the UAE took part in a walkathon organized to commemorate the 2009 World Diabetes Day.
Lahan Al Hayat concert was kicked off with a short film on diabetes and its impact around the world. Thereafter, it was a celebration of culture and humanity through dance and music performed by FUSION, an international dance group from South Africa. A medley of dance, songs and soulful instrument was used to chronicle the story of humanity's inner will to grow and expand around the world - from Africa to the Far East and India, Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. The entire performance delivered a diabetes themed message.
Commenting on 'Beat Diabetes' campaign, Renuka Jagtiani, Director, Landmark Group said: "About one in four people in the UAE today are living with diabetes; this is alarming. Our commitment to the cause of diabetes is a long-term initiative and we hope to make a difference in every community we operate in."
"Diabetes has no permanent cure, but it can be managed or prevented if susceptibility is established early. Awareness and education are crucial for people to prevent or manage the condition; we all have a role to play in the fight against diabetes," Renuka added.
In attendance at the event were key figures from the retail, financial and property sectors in the UAE, all of whom came to support the call to action against the alarming incidence of diabetes globally. The evening also served as a fund raiser for the UAE Red Crescent Society. The UAE Red Crescent serves as a ray of hope to the country, tirelessly & unconditionally supporting the needy.
